YOUTH (11-18 YEARS)

FUEL YOUTH is the Youth Community of St. Marys Magdalene' with Sale West Community Church, Ashton-on-Mersey, aimed at those in School Years 7 to 13.

Each of the following groups meet at St. Mary Magdalene's Church:

FUEL- Friday Evening Youth Group
Fridays, 7pm-8.30pm, for school years 7 - 9

For most, FUEL will act as their first contact with the Christian faith.  As people arrive, we have some time for a bit of a catch-up in the cafe area.  We have plenty of organised games/activities around a different theme each week, including a brief discussion around the theme, and finish off with some social time (including a Tuck Shop, Wii, table-top games, & sports in the Hall).
Cost: £1 subs on entry

FUEL:Sundays - Sunday Morning Youth Church
Sundays, 9.30am-10.30am, for school years 7 - 13

Whether you've been dragged along, or you've done the dragging, join us at FUEL:Sundays for a light breakfast and Youth Church on a Sunday morning while the main service is on. Together we will experience what church is, whilst keeping it youth-centric. We include elements such as worship, reading the Bible, prayer, and teaching/discussing around the topic. We finish by joining the main church service towards the end for the final song(s)/blessing.

Logo - FUEL Cell - White on Bl

FUEL:Cell - Friday Night Youth Discipleship Community
Fridays, 8pm-9.15pm, for school years 9 - 13

For those who decide to dig deeper into their own faith, and explore how to nurture and grow it, we have FUEL:Cell. We start by joining with the rest of the youth's social time (including a Tuck Shop, Wii, table-top games, & sports in the Hall), and then as the younger youth start to leave, we meet to discuss deeper themes and topics that can shake-up and shape our faith.
Cost: £1 subs on entry

FAQs

Which group(s) can I attend?

We'd love for you to attend as many of the groups you can/want to, so you're invited to come along to them all, but there are a few restrictions. FUEL is more like a typical church Youth Group - lots of fun, with a bit of teaching, but those who are a little older might find it less appealing so we have capped the ages to those between school years 7 and 9. FUEL:Cell is designed as a 'Discipleship Community', and so is aimed at those young people who are exploring their faith and want to go deeper, discussing some of the bigger themes within the Bible. FUEL:Cell is open to young people between school years 9 and 13. FUEL:Sundays is aimed at reaching a broad spectrum of young people; it is light-hearted enough to appeal to young people from Year 7, but deep enough to meet the needs of older youth (up to year 13).

I'm in Year 9.  Which group can I go to?

You can attend whichever group(s) you want to. Anyone between years 7 to 13 can attend FUEL:Sundays. When it comes to Fridays, the choice is yours! If you have friends/relatives who attend FUEL and not FUEL:Cell (or the other way round) you may want to go to that group. Alternatively, you might like to come to both (regardless of who you know/don't know). You don't have to make your decision now - if you want to try out one group, you can always swap at a later date. You can even do a few weeks at one, then a few weeks at the other, or swap back and forth - it's fine with us!  We just want you to find the right fit for you.

Why do you charge on a Friday?

Charging subs on a Friday night has always been a tricky decision. We know that prices keep going up and we don't want to burden families with the added costs of paying to attend church-based activities. However, your £1 goes straight back into resourcing the youth work at St. Mary's & Sale West by buying new/replacing equipment and resources, and subsidising costs for special events and trips out etc.  We don't want you to feel like you have to miss out because you can't afford to pay each week, so if you think that you'd struggle to pay please get your parent(s) or guardian(s) to get in touch with us beforehand so that there's no confusion/embarrassment at the door. FUEL:Sundays, however, is completely free.

If I attend FUEL and FUEL:Cell, do I have to pay twice?

No.  Whether you attend just FUEL, FUEL:Cell, or both on a Friday night you pay just £1, regardless of whether you attend one group or both. See it as two for one deal!

If I miss a week, or a few, does it matter?

No.  There's a level of continuity if you come regularly, and we think you'll get the most out of the sessions (as well as have fun hanging out with your friends regularly!) that way, but if you have other commitments we understand.  You will be missed, but you will also be welcomed back whenever you can make it.
