STUDY SESSIONS

In the 150 psalms the Holy Spirit has given us more than a book of Israel's prayer and praise.
The Book of Psalms is a cross section of God's revelation to Israel and of Israel's response in faith to the Lord.
The Psalms mirror the faith of Israel. In them we receive windows that enable us to look out on our brothers and sisters in the faith of more than twenty-five hundred years ago.
Yet the Book of Psalms is also God's prescription for today’s church, because
all human beings face the same emotional, physical and spiritual battles and
through the Psalms He reveals how great, wonderful, magnificent, wise, and utterly awe-inspiring He is!
The Book of Psalms is first and foremost God's Word to his people. We hear the voice of God in each individual psalm and through the many moods of the Psalms.
The purpose of the Book of Psalms is the same as that of any part of Scripture: they are "useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work"
The Book of Psalms is nevertheless unique. In it God not only speaks to His people, He also encourages us to use the language of the Psalms in our individual and communal prayers and praise.
Applying these ancient psalms to a new situation - our situation, the Book of Psalms can revolutionize our devotional life, our family patterns, and the fellowship and the witness of our church.
