Small Group Notes - "A LIFE WORTH LIVING" |
SESSION 4
Ephesians 4:1-16
WELCOME
Paul occasionally goes off on tangents - what's the biggest thing you've ever left undone / unfinished?
WORSHIP
Call to mind occasions where you have received - or been able to extend love - through Christian fellowship. Then, if you sing as a group, use this old chorus to lead into prayer.
"We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord (2x)
And we pray that all unity will one day be restored
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love."
WORD
"We do not very often come across opportunities for exercising strength, magnanimity, or magnificence; but gentleness, temperance, modesty, and humility are graces which ought to colour everything we do. There may be virtues of a more exalted mould, but...these are the most continually called for in daily life." {François de Sales.}
- Do you agree with de Sales? How do you feel about your response?
- Read Ephesians 4:1-6. What are the "marks" of the calling we have received? How you apply them to your life.
- Discuss: "Our problem is that we have a million pound salvation and a five-pence response."
- Read verse 11. How complete do you think this list is intended to be?
- How does this passage run counter to our current pluralistic, post-modern society? ("There isn't only one true God, is there?")
In what ways have you come up against this attitude?
- Unity is not the goal; unity in Christ is. What's the difference?
- What are some "barriers" in your life that might keep you from living a life of humility, gentleness, and patience? Can the group pray into this situation?
WITNESS
How can your Group be actively involved in extending the Kingdom of God?
Commit yourselves either to an activity that you can invite folk to, or to a specific person, mission or project you can regularly pray for as a Group.
