B)
Home is where the heart is.
Matthew
6v19-34
·
Priorities - serving God
or riches
·
Provisions - material
anxieties - Gods provision
Thoughts:
Q How does God build his
Kingdom?
A By entrusting us
with the resources. As we use these resources so, the Kingdom is
extended through the mission of the church. Worshipping money, comfort
or possessions rivals God’s reign in our lives.
How do you
think you would feel if you lost or broke something that is special
to you? What would it be? Or, has that ever happened?
What
prayers, songs or feelings are inspired in you as you think about
heaven?
The leader could bring some ideas.
WORD
Read Matthew 6v19-34
Questions:
1. What is an
‘earthly treasure’? Is there anything wrong with treasures on earth?
What would you consider to be a heavenly treasure?
2. Where is your
spiritual ‘bank’? How do you pay in ‘deposits’?
3. What
effect does ‘worry’ have on our lives?
If someone
told you that “Jesus has said that you should have no possessions
and that you should simply expect that God would provide for your
every need”, what would you say?
What are you worried about that is frustrating you in your Christian
life at this moment?
Can we pray for you now… ?
4. What do
you think it means to
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness”? Seek? First?
Kingdom? Righteousness?
5. A
story: “A man insisted that he be buried with his pockets full of
gold coins. Later, at the gates of heaven he showed his gold in an
attempt to make an entry. He made no impression and was asked, ‘Why
are you trying to bring pavement into heaven?’”
Extra Questions:
1) I
need only
90% of what God gives me: Discuss.
2) What are the idols of our time? How
do they tempt me?
Read Colossians
4v5-6. Pray for each other – what ‘conversations’ are you likely to
have this week?
Challenging question:
Do I only ‘need’ 90% of what God gives me?
The
cost:
Is seen in my pocket.
My response :
Is to look again at my lifestyle
priorities
and think about my use of money.
